Online banking with a crypto wallet, on one ledger

Charity Bank Australia has moved its customers onto BankBits, the online banking platform that now runs every account we hold. Signing in once brings up your Australian dollar accounts, your payments and, for customers who choose to open one, a crypto wallet — all on the same ledger, in the same session.

Bringing the wallet into online banking was a deliberate decision. Organisations that had begun accepting donations in digital assets were telling us they were reconciling two sets of records by hand, in two places, with two sets of credentials. Putting the wallet beside the everyday accounts means one balance list, one transaction history and one export at the end of the month.

Crypto held in the wallet is not a deposit and is not covered by the Financial Claims Scheme. The value of digital assets can move sharply and can fall to nothing. Our crypto services are registered with AUSTRAC as a digital currency exchange, and we ask every customer to read the wallet terms in full before they open one.

Everyday banking has changed as well. Payments made through BankBits settle over Osko where the receiving institution supports it, and you can address a payment with a PayID instead of a BSB and account number. Confirmation of Payee tells you the account name registered against the details you have entered before you approve anything.

The way you reach us has changed too. Every account query now runs through secure messages inside online banking rather than by e-mail, so the conversation sits alongside the account it concerns and neither side has to confirm identity from scratch each time. Our staff can see the same thread you can.

Existing customers keep their account numbers, their BSB and their standing payment instructions. If you have not signed in since the move, your first sign-in will ask you to set a new passphrase and register a device for authentication.
